JANUARY 2025 REPORT

 

Introduction

This report summarizes the activities and initiatives undertaken by Minority Empowerment Network in the month of January, 2025. Our focus continues to be providing valuable community services such as assist to find job, room for job and room seekers, raising awareness on crucial health topics, supporting immigrants, promoting local tourism, and facilitating access to essential resources for individuals in need.

 

New Year 2025's Best wishes:

  1. Sent New Year 2025 best wishes to several individuals, and organizations. Spreading positivity and maintaining good communication with contacts.

 

Meeting with Raj Biraj Rijal, CPA:

Met with Raj Biraj Rijal to discuss key topics regarding the” Community Center. The meeting lasted for approximately 3 hours. 

  • Topics discussed included the planning and development of the Community Center and tax cleaning services for 2026.
  • Outcome: Identified actionable items and set the foundation for future collaboration. We plan to follow up on specific tasks regarding the tax cleaning services' process for 2026. 

Conclusion/Next Steps:

  • Continue communication with Raj Biraj Rijal.
  • Follow up with contacts to maintain relationships and ensure continued progress with community projects.

 

Purushottam Ji- Assistance with Accompanying for His Mother:

  • Purushottam Ji, inquired about arranging travel for his mother, who is scheduled to travel from New York to Kathmandu in February.
  • He requested assistance in finding an accompanying person for his mother during the flight. I provided information on possible options.

Next Steps:

  • Stay in contact with Purushottam Ji, for his mother’s journey.

 

Deepak Ji requested the phone number of Teba Ji and Chhiring Ji.

  • We provided him with theirs contact number as per his request.

Next Steps:

  • Continue assisting individuals with contact-related inquiries while maintaining privacy protocols.

 

Referral:

  • Provided a job referral for Anita Lama to NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst.
  • Directed Anita Lama to the appropriate contact and resources for applying to positions within the hospital.
  • Shared information regarding job openings, application procedures, and any relevant qualifications required for the available roles.

Next Steps:

  • Follow up with Anita Lama to check on her progress with the job application and provide additional support if necessary.

 

Meeting with Raj Punjabi, Chairperson of CAB:

  • Held a meeting with Raj Punjabi, Chairperson of the Community Advisory Board (CAB).
  • Discussed key topics related to the CAB's initiatives.
  • Topics included community outreach programs and partnerships.

Next Steps:

  • Follow up with Raj Punjabi.

 

Assisted a patient with filling out necessary form for her visit to City MD in Jackson Heights.

 

Participated and Supported:

  • Watched and Donated to Documentary "Pheke" (Mother Tongue) 

Next Steps:

  • Share feedback and continue supporting similar meaningful projects   in the future.

 

Participation:

  • Participated in the celebration of Prithvi Jayanti and National Unification Day.

 

Meeting with Mohan Shrestha – Senior Citizen Services in Queens:

  • Held a meeting with Mohan Shrestha to discuss senior citizen services in Broadway, Jackson Heights, Queens.
  • Discussed current programs and initiatives available to seniors in the community, including healthcare, transportation, and social services.
  • Explored opportunities for expanding or improving services to better meet the needs of senior citizens in the area.
  • Identified potential collaboration opportunities and areas where additional support or resources could be beneficial.

  • Follow up with Mohan Shrestha on any specific action items discussed during the meeting.
  • Assist with any necessary resources or connections to enhance senior citizen services in Queens.

 

Participation in Khasokhas 13th Anniversary & Local Journalism Matters Roundtable Discussion:

  • Participated in the Khasokhas 13th Anniversary event on January 15, 2025, in Queens.
  • Attended the Local Journalism Matters roundtable discussion, where key topics surrounding the importance of local journalism in community development and its challenges were discussed.
  • Engaged with various professionals and community leaders, sharing insights and learning about the evolving role of journalism in serving local communities.
  • Contributed to conversations about how local media outlets can sustain themselves and stay relevant in an increasingly digital and globalized media landscape.

Immigration Services – Assistance to fill up immigration form in cooperation with Ravi Gautam:

  • Assisted an individual in completing immigration forms required for their application process.
  • Guided the person step-by-step through the form to ensure all required information was accurately filled out.
  • Addressed any questions they had regarding specific sections of the forms and explained the necessary documents they would need to submit.
  • Double-checked the forms for any errors or missing information to ensure completeness before submission.

 

Mental Health Awareness and Support

  • Activities: Provided information on mental health through social media.

 

Diabetes and Blood Pressure Awareness

  • Activities: Distributed information regarding diabetes and blood pressure via social media.

 

 Job Vacancy & Job Fair Information

  • Activities: Shared job vacancy listings via email, in-person and via social media. 

 

Room Vacancy Listings

  • Activities: Provided listings of available rooms and apartments for rent, assisting individuals and families in need of housing.

 

Providing Office Space to Other Non-Profit Organizations

  • Activities: Allowed non-profit organizations to use our office space for their meetings.

 

Promotion of New York City and State Tourism

  • Activities: Spreading promotional flyers, links about New York City and state tourism opportunities via social media.

 

Typing Services (English and Nepali)

  • Activities: Offered typing and document preparation services in both English and Nepali.

 

Assisting Immigrants in Navigating New Surroundings

  • Activities: Helped immigrants by accompanying them to essential services such as medical appointments, getting health insurance, etc.

 

Referrals for Good Causes

  • Activities: Provided referrals for individuals seeking assistance with various causes such as housing, healthcare, and apply for loan.

 

Challenges and Areas for Improvement

  • Challenges: Limited availability of resources for some specific needs; financial constraint to pay office rent, language barriers in some instances; volunteer shortages, etc.
  • Solutions: Considering expanding volunteer outreach programs; exploring partnerships with other organizations for resource sharing.

 

Conclusion

In summary, Minority Empowerment Network made significant strides in supporting the community during January. By offering a broad range of services, we have impacted more and more people via social media and very few in person, helping them access vital resources, improve their health, and settle into their new surroundings. We remain committed to our mission and look forward to expanding our outreach in the coming months.
